Having made the decision to build a more traditional and sea worthy dinghy I spent many hours looking at designs on line. I wanted a boat small enough that I could easily launch, recover and sail myself and one that would look good and be more of a challenge to build.
The internet is a great resource but is one that can take an inordinate amount of time. My starting point was that I wanted a dinghy I could handle and sail single-handedly, nothing too big to make it easy to build, store and trailer.
I wanted the advantages of CNC cut plywood parts so I looked at what was available. The lines of Morbic appealed to me and the more I researched it the more I liked it. It was an advantage that it was designed by Vivier as I liked Roger Barnes’ Ilur.
In my search on the internet I found the MyMorbic website and the fact that there was a forum where I could get support and advice was a big plus and gave me confidence that I could build the boat.
I was uncertain about the rig I would choose for the dinghy, I like the simplicity of my current single sail but the sloop version does look attractive. I still haven’t made my mind up on this point and luckily don’t need to decide until the planking is finished so I can procrastinate. Until then I can dream….
